What Is A Glow Plug?
A glow plug system consists of glow plugs, control modules, relays and combustion sensors. The combination of components functions as a regulator for a vehicle’s exhaust, reducing the amount of harmful exhaust emissions emitted into the atmosphere. Your glow plugs see use every time you start your engine. Glow plugs heat up to around 2372° fahrenheit and warm up the diesel fuel for easier combustion in the cylinders. This heating process lasts for around 3 minutes. A vehicle with properly functioning glow plugs will feel little to no vibration when the engine is idling, smooth and reliable starts and your engine is not misfiring while starting. Engines that have a direct-injection system will start without the aid of glow-plugs because they have much higher compression ratios.
